| Foundations of aesthetic dentistry |
A vast array of methods nowadays available allows to change the shape, colour, tone and the position of teeth - it can simply enhance the aesthetic appeal of the entire smile. White, even, attractive teeth are unquestionable signs of health and beauty. A well-formed, complete smile forms a basis for face aesthetics. |

|
Missing teeth, pathological dental abrasion become the reason for a distinct shortening of the lower part of the face. Nasolabial folds and mentolabial folds become deeper, chin stands out, cheeks sag, and over time the lower jaw gradually protrudes forward and the area under nose sags. Consequently, deep wrinkles appear prematurely, the contours of face start to slacken and become distorted, which is characteristic for people of advanced age.
Many of these processes develop slowly and over time they start to affect the appearance and the first signs of ageing become visible. Then we look for help of a dental surgeon, but part of the changes are irreversible..
That is why it is extremely important to replace the missing teeth, reconstruct missing tooth tissues in the accurate shape in order to avoid abrasion. When having a lot of fillings, composite materials do not play their role. Permanent reconstructions: crowns, inlays, onlays of porcelain, metal and mainly of gold protect against too fast teeth shortening.
Aesthetic dentistry also helps overcome other "smile problems" such as uneven, decayed, protruded, crowded, dark, misshapen, too small teeth or teeth with gaps.
Aesthetic dentistry also helps overcome other "smile problems" such as uneven, decayed, protruded, crowded, dark, misshapen, too small teeth or teeth with gaps.
We must yet remember that teeth are a part of our organism. It is a biological ground for which it is most essential to be healthy.
And the possibility of aesthetic treatment must be in each case evaluated by a dental surgeon after a thorough examination. Procedure plan is prepared individually for each patient after a thorough analysis. We also define patient’s wishes and we determine if we can fulfil them and to what extent.

| Selection of a crown type |
In case of a crown made for labial teeth (incisors and canines) we most often choose Empress or Finesse metal-free porcelain crowns. One can also make classic porcelain crown bonded to metal (steel or gold).
In case of dead teeth or very decayed, teeth must be reinforced with a crown-root inlay. A cemented pin inside the root can be white, from zirconium oxide or of glass fibre with a composite, they can be also metal (steel or gold). We fit a porcelain crown only onto such inlay.
On cheek teeth we make most often porcelain crowns bonded to metal (due to a greater durability). Instead of steel or gold one can nowadays use a white, a translucent material of metal strength – zirconium oxide.
If teeth are missing we make bridges. We utilise porcelain bridges bonded to metal (steel or gold) and also all-ceramic bridges (metal-free) in the anterior segment.
Instead of a bridge a missing tooth can be replaced with an implant. After inserting a titanic screw, we screw a "post" on it - a core of the crown (they can be all-ceramic, from zirconium oxide or of steel) and we fit a crown (all-ceramic or bonded to metal) onto it.

| Teeth Whitening |
Preventive dentistry is a domain specializing in not only teeth treatment but also in improving their appearance. Bright teeth are a commonly accepted symbol of health and beauty. In our Centre we use all the safest methods of teeth whitening by use of mouth trays where the whitening solution is deposited. Whitening process does not damage hard tooth tissues, and at the same time it gives the optimum whiteness. Patients can choose among a few techniques of teeth whitening.
At-home whitening.
Whitening solution (Nite White, Opalescens, Illumine) is given to a patient for home use. Therapy lasts for about 7-10 days.
In-Office whitening.
We use a modern lamp allowing in-office teeth whitening. BT Cool whitening system ensures fast and safe teeth whitening. Teeth are whitened by 5 to 15 shades on the Vita shade guide. The method is much more effective than overnight tray-system whitening.
BT Cool whitening system is very popular in the USA and all over the world. Treatment time is about 30 minutes. It involves shining a special light on the whitening gel applied on teeth.
A blue light, from which harmful and irritating beams are eliminated, is emitted. A light activating the gel builds up no heat, which prevents high hypersensitivity and pain - often present at teeth whitening.
The whitening involves oxidation of stains and elimination of acquired discolorations - a tooth gains clean and white enamel. This process does not damage the structure of teeth and enamel, which could lead to tooth decay.
Combined whitening
Solutions used during this procedure have different concentration, and a procedure proceeds in two stages:
- dentist’s office stage (one or two appointments 30 minutes each)
- at-home stage (4 - 5 days)

| Composite fillings |
In our centre we use the latest materials for dental cavities fillings. In case of direct fillings (at the office, during one visit) we use composite materials. These materials imitate the natural colour and translucency of each tooth very precisely. Also a feature of a so called diminished "polymerization shrinkage" proves their modernity, thanks to which we do not show an effect of microleakage, and consequently there are no reasons for re-current caries (on the peripheries of a filling). All materials used by us are ideally polishable and it is one more feature that increases their durability. Hybrid composites also have increased mechanical resistance which secures against abrasion, washing away and fillings' breaking.
We also use the most up-to-date composites for aesthetic, invisible fillings and restorations.
Their main advantages:
- they give an effect of a natural tooth
- they are not visible even in ultraviolet rays (eg. at the disco)
We use fillings:
- MIRIS
- ESTET-X
- ENAMEL HFO, FILTEK SUPREME

| Inlays and onlays |
In case of large restorations we make porcelain inlays and onlays which are considered more durable and aesthetic appealing than composites.
Inlay is a type of filling made outside of the oral cavity on a tooth model obtained from an impression thanks to it we achieve an exceptional durability, accuracy, aesthetics and lifelike appearance.
Onlay. When the anatomical crown is extensively damaged, we can save a vital tooth (there is no necessity of root canal treatment), we need a permanent reconstruction and we need to save the preserved, still healthy fragments of the anatomical crown.

| Porcelain veneers
|
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain enhancing the teeth’s appearance. They are made by a dental technician on the basis of an impression. A tooth is trimmed only on the labial surface at a depth of 0.8 mm.
It is a very precise work bringing a beautiful and permanent effect. A veneer made in this way resists staining - does not change colour, darken or discolour. With veneers in place, patients can expect teeth deceptively imitating the natural teeth of an ideal shape and colour, even if our natural teeth were earlier shifted, protruded or retruded.

| All-ceramic crowns |
Aesthetic crowns comprise all-ceramic crowns. These restorations have no metal and no metal line at the gingival margin is visible. Also, we usually achieve a healthy state of marginal gums.
Unfortunately, they are not as strong as crowns bonded to metal, especially in cheek teeth. A novelty in this domain is a Procera All Ceram crown. A base of this crown is made from aluminium oxide, is white, a special type of porcelain is bonded to such cap, it can be fitted onto every tooth. Crowns are also elements of bridges as a permanent replacement of missing teeth.
