Orthodontics Orthodontics involves the treatment of maloclussion and malaligned teeth. Often it is the first and foremost step to a beautiful smile. Since occlusion defects may distort the aesthetics of the whole face, while crowded, crooked even if whitened or covered with beautiful crowns teeth will not look good. Orthodontic treatment may be carried out by the use of removable and fixed appliances. There are no age limits for orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic treatment is also often an important stage allowing to replace the missing teeth and to carry out periodontal treatment. Removable appliances Typical removable appliances are used in children?s treatment. They consist of a plastic (acrylic) plate of various colours and wire elements (loops, screws, clasps), which attach the appliance to teeth and which are responsible for its various functions. Unfortunately, the effect of such treatment almost completely depends on a patient?s discipline. This appliance need to be worn in mouth between ten and fifteen and even twenty hours a day. If this time is shorter or if a child makes a few days breaks ? it will not bring desired effects.
Fixed appliances Fixed appliances belong to the most often used appliances in treatment of occlusal defects and teeth defects both in adult and in children. They consist of bands fixed around the teeth, brackets and archwires and other tying elements responsible for such appliance operation.

Fixed orthodontic appliances turn out to be useful in treating various disorders. Nowadays their application is combined with headgears, implants (so called orthoplants), which makes them more effective especially in difficult cases. The brackets are glued most frequently to visible teeth surfaces. We have at choice: standard metal, very small, coloured, gold, ceramic-white, translucent-plastic brackets and brackets made from special crystal. Depending on the type of a bracket we choose the appliance will be more or less aesthetically appealing.

Sometimes brackets and other elements of fixed appliances may be glued to the inside of teeth. It is used exclusively in a patient with specific conditions and special recommendations. Using such brackets is also considerably more costly.
