Procedures perfomed in Estetica – Preventive dental care |
| Preventive dental care |
Out of concern for our patients’ teeth health we place a special emphasis on a widely understood preventive dental care. The aim is to avoid or to delay dental caries and gum disease formation. Teeth health and a correct hygiene of the oral cavity are the basis for all procedures within the scope of aesthetic dentistry, prosthodontics, implantology or treatment of so called “periodontitis”. |
 |
|
By performing preventive procedures we affect the tooth structure and we help our dentition and its surrounding i.e. gums and bones to keep a good condition throughout our life. An effective preventive care consists of both procedures performed at the dentists office and also procedures performed independently by a patient. Our every patient, after a detailed oral cavity examination, is provided with a detailed hygiene counseling, selected individually to a given case. We also inform on the most appropriate accessories and instruments for oral cavity hygiene. We have extensive experience and expertise in this field.
|
| Prevention program |
Moreover, we offer a preventive care program, also matched to individual needs, conducted by a dental surgeon:
- Scaling (removing the dental calculus) and removing the dental deposits
- Varnishing with fluoride solutions
- Varnishing with antiseptic solutions
- Contact fluoridation (topical application of a high-concentration fluoride varnish)
- Pit an fissure sealing in cheek teeth.
|
| Selecting the proper toothbrushes |
When selecting a toothbrush we should take into account its size, shape of the working part, bristle hardness. To choose the optimal solution it is advisable to contact a dental surgeon who, after a prior examination, will make the best choice.
|
| Methods of brushing |
The method of brushing is selected individually taking into account the susceptibility to dental plaque accumulation, gums and hard tooth tissue condition and possible utilization of permanent and removable prosthetic restorations. It is advisable to match the brushing method at the dentist’s office after a prior dental plaque examination. A toothpaste and also mouthwashes for everyday use, dental flosses, tooth picks or special types of toothbrushes should be matched in a similar manner.
|
| Dental floss |
By using dental flosses and tooth picks we have an opportunity to remove the dental plaque and residual food from the interdental spaces hard-to-reach during normal brushing. Many patients underestimate and do not floss regularly or make this procedure incorrectly, but flossing is necessary to prevent tooth decay formation, gum diseases and a bad breath.
|
| Fluoride mouthwashes |
Fluoride mouthwashes are advisable as a supplementation of brushing and flossing. Mouthwashes allows to remove residual food from the recesses of an oral cavity and gum pockets prolonging at the same time the contact of fluoride ions with tooth tissues. Antiseptic over-the-counter mouthwashes contain gentle disinfecting agents, enable to reduce the number of germs in the oral cavity, and in connection with fluoride they are particularly effective at preventing bacteria causing decay. There are also antiseptic mouthwashes designed to prevent dental deposits accumulation and acting against bacteria causing gum diseases – these are especially recommended together with proper toothpastes as a “periodontitis” prophylaxis.
|
| Irrigators |
Irrigators are devices enabling a proper hygiene in difficult to clean areas – gum pockets, interdental spaces and areas under the bridgeworks together with a simultaneous gums massage. It is based upon removing plaque and debris from under the gums using a high pressure stream of water. In particular the water irrigators are recommended for people with periodontal diseases, prosthetic restorations (bridgeworks) and implants. This device is tiny and surely there is a place for it in every bathroom.

Preventive care procedures performed at the dentist's office
| Sealing |
Sealing is a procedure involving covering and sealing the grooves in cheek teeth with a sealant which prevents the dental plaque from building up. This procedure stops decay formation for many years in these areas. Patients who check them regularly to make sure that the seal inside the grooves is still intact (every 6 months) in case of wearing over time have the sealant reapplied to avoid the need for more extensive dental treatment. Effectiveness of such protection against decay is in this case very high.
|
| Contact fluoridation |
These are several, ten to fifteen minutes’ procedures with application of soft dental trays with a fluoride gel. They aim at strengthening tooth enamel and its resistance to bacterial acids and regeneration of minor mechanical damages and decalcification areas.
|
| Fluoride varnishes |
Teeth are covered with a thin and hardening coating of fluoride varnish, such procedure strongly protects all dental surfaces against decay. It needs to be applied semi-annually, especially in children and adults with high caries rate (over 2 new decay cavities forming in 6 months).
|
| Varnishing with antiseptic solutions |
This procedure involves covering the exposed teeth roots with a coating of quick-dry, translucent varnishes containing chlorhexidine. It aims at protecting the root against decay, preventing bacterial plaque accumulation responsible for gum disease and decreasing the possible hypersensivity of these areas to cold.
|
| Scaling |
Scaling involves removal of supragingival and subgingival calculus, ended with teeth surface polishing and sandblasting the deposits. This procedure should be performed regularly, depending on the degree of deposits accumulation and on the condition of gums and periodontium. It belongs to the basic prophylaxis of gums diseases especially of so called “periodontitis”.
