Pendodontics is a domain of dentistry specializing in a preventive care and treatment of children and adolescents. As it goes about children, pendodontics primary goals are prevention and heading off potential oral health problems before they occur! So each child should be under a permanent stomatological care even if apparently there are no reasons for it. |

Regular visits at the dentist should start quite early. The child should visit a paediatric dentist when the first tooth comes in, usually about twelve months of age. Then apart from checking whether face and oral cavity development proceeds in a correct manner, parents are advised on proper diet and on taking care of the erupting milk teeth.
The cause of dental caries is most often in dietary and care mistakes related to a child. This particular care about newly erupted teeth is justified by high susceptibility to dental caries. We mean not only the deciduous teeth, but also the permanent teeth (first erupting incisors and first molars). They are extremely susceptible to decay processes, as their formation is not ended (very thin and not mineralized surface layers).

| Early tooth decay |
Early tooth decay is a frequent and serious dental problem of an early childhood (two or three years old children). It is an extremely acute type of tooth decay, which over a few months can lead to a damage of tooth tissue and necessitate a premature extraction. It is a really unpleasant moment, when we have to extract freshly erupted teeth in three years old children due to decay complications. That is why if parents notice in their children any changes on the dentition (spots, discolorations etc.) they should quickly consult it with a paediatric dental surgeon. Dental treatment of such small children is very difficult and is a big experience both for a child and its parents. So since the earliest years we should make children acquainted with items for oral cavity hygiene. Moreover, we also see a necessity of getting children accustomed to the conditions of a modern dentist's office by means of adaptation visits in our friendly environment. We are happy to sit Your Child in the dentist's chair and to determine its medical needs. Such visits are nicely recalled by the little ones, as they are usually limited to a short chat and if necessary to varnishing (children say - painting) the milk teeth with a varnish preventing decay formation.

| Milk teeth replaced by permanent teeth |
One should also be alert when a child is older. The time of teeth replacement is a very important moment. First permanent teeth come in about six years of age (so called first molars). These are teeth which require particular care as their eruption is not preceded by falling out of the milk teeth. Thus their eruption can be overlooked. Standing as the last in the dental arch makes them difficult to clean and deep crevices forming on the chewing surfaces promote the accumulation of tartar on them - a cariogenic factor. So they are very quickly attacked by dental caries. Just first molars out of the whole permanent dentition are most quickly and most frequently lost and there is no denying that these problems arise from a children's period neglect. In case of a systematic control at the dentist's the time of first molars eruption is noticed on time. Then we offer an immediate sealing of deep crevices with fluoride pit and fissures sealants (Helioseal), which extremely effectively protect from decay formation. Sealed teeth require a regular control in order to check the tightness of the sealant. However it is often forgotten about. Similar preventive procedures are required for other groups of erupting teeth.

| Treatment of milk teeth |
Decayed milk teeth are treated similarly as in adults. Decay should be removed from the tooth and a cavity should be filled with a material. For your child we have also the whole range of durable and healthy fillings. They can be white, but also glittering and colored TTwinky Star - intensely pink, orange, yellow, blue, green, willow green, silver. If the procedure turns out to painful we apply anaesthesia. We use needle-free syringes - - anaesthetic is administered to the area of the tooth at a pressure from a special injector gun. After the procedure our little patient is very proud of its colored filling and willingly decides on the next one of a different colour. Except for a filling a child receives a tiny surprise and diploma for courage which will surely make the whole family proud.
If a child complains of a tooth pain or swelling it does not need to have the tooth extracted. It also does not need to suffer, we will do our best to guarantee painless and stress-free visits.
We will even perform root canal treatment of the milk teeth - a premature loss of teeth can cause malocclusion later treatment of which is long-lasting, troublesome and very costly.
When a child losses a tooth we can replace it out of aesthetic concerns or we can use space maintainer in order to prevent malocclusion.
Only then the erupting permanent teeth may not freely move and drift.
Sometimes it is necessary to make an orthodontic prosthesis (children's). Thus if we care about our children teeth health effectively, we will spare them many unpleasant disappointments in the future. Not only related to pain but also the financial aspects |
